Newcastle star has surgery after suffering facial fracture in loss to Sunderland

  • Newcastle have confirmed that defender Sven Botman suffered a facial fracture during his side’s 2-1 derby defeat by Sunderland on Sunday.
  • Botman had to be replaced in the second half at St James’ Park following the injury.
  • Newcastle wrote on X on Monday afternoon that Botman has undergone “successful surgery” on the fracture and he is “not expected to be sidelined for an extended period”.
  • The club added that Botman “hopes to be available again during the closing weeks of the season”.
  • Newcastle are currently 12th in the Premier League table after Sunday’s loss, and have seven matches remaining this season.
