A Newcastle salon which offers a relaxing escape from city centre life has received a top award at a London ceremony.
City Retreat in Grey Street Hotel is celebrating after winning an industry award which saw it beat competition from across the UK. The Professional Beauty Awards 2022 were hosted at a Park Plaza hotel in the capital, attended by hundreds of leading figures in the beauty and spa industries.
And City Retreat, which is a basement salon inside the Grade ll-listed hotel building owned by Malhotra Group in Newcastle's famous Grey Street, received the Boutique Salon of the Year award. The venue, which has three treatment rooms, a nail bar and a pedicure station, offers a range of treatments for the skin, body and lashes, as well as the likes of non-surgical face lifts, hydro-facials and 'quantum light' therapy.

City Retreat, already an award-winner, was initially established at 55 Degrees North in Newcastle in 2004 by Lesley Caster who said: "We are delighted to have won this category.
“These awards are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and to win such a highly contested category is a real tribute to the hard work of my entire team.” The Professional Beauty Awards are said to be the longest-running awards for the beauty, nails, spa and aesthetic industries and they are out to recognise outstanding customer service, treatment delivery and innovation.
Entrants were judged by independent industry experts and every short-listed salon, spa and clinic was interviewed by a member of the judging team. Therapists all then attended a live final in London where they had to demonstrate their work for the judges.
Atul Malhotra, chief operations officer of hospitality company Malhotra Group plc which owns the hotel where Lesley's salon is based, said: “It’s just over a year since City Retreat became our in-house salon partner at Grey Street Hotel and we are delighted that Lesley and her team have hit the ground running with such a fully-deserved, major award win."
