Newcastle's surprise bid for £51m star grants Chelsea Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer funding

Newcastle United could hand Chelsea a major boost in Todd Boehly's mission to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from Barcelona amid the Spanish giants' well-documented - and ongoing - financial troubles.

football.london understand that the Blues are considering a move for the former Arsenal striker, with Thomas Tuchel looking to refurbish his strike force before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month. Timo Werner has already returned to RB Leipzig, meanwhile Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic continue to face increasingly uncertain futures at the club.

And, it's believed that the latter of whom could be next to leave Stamford Bridge. According to The Athletic, Eddie Howe's side are considering whether to table a bid for Pulisic.

The report claims that the Magpies have asked top-six Premier League clubs to be informed of any attacking players that are available to be loaned out this season, including Chelsea. The Athletic add that Conor Gallagher and Hudson-Odoi have been subject to interest from Newcastle, though it could be the United States international on the move.

Pulisic, who is valued at £50.7million by CIES Football Observatory, started just 13 of Chelsea's 38 Premier League fixtures last season, finding the net just six times. The winger has often only performed in moments, struggling to sustain a high-level of performance across the duration of a fifty to sixty-game campaign with injuries also hampering his progress.

Todd Boehly is set to let Pulisic leave this summer if he receives acceptable offers, with Juventus said to be interested in his services too. However, the winger seems intent on staying at Chelsea - even following the arrival of Raheem Sterling who will likely rival him for first-team opportunities.

Pulisic told ESPN when asked about Sterling's arrival: "Great quality. We’re really excited about it. The beautiful thing about being at a club like this is the competition every single day. We all thrive competing with each other in training and getting to play with each other is just another great addition to the team.

"It doesn’t change a whole lot [for me], I’m still going to have to play hard and earn my position, just like I did before, nothing crazy has changed. This is Chelsea, this is what you signed up for, this is the kind of club it is with the calibre of players that we have."

However, Pulisic, who sees his contract with the Blues expire in 2024, could unlock Chelsea a windfall that funds the arrival of Aubameyang. With a wealth of attacking options at Tuchel's disposal, the German faces a tough decision as to who does and doesn't have a future at the club.
