The decision to allow Newcastle United's opening goal at Tottenham to stand caused a half-time debate in the Sky Sports studio. Les Ferdinand and Jamie Redknapp disagreed over whether Callum Wilson should have been penalised for the collision with Hugo Lloris.
The Magpies' number nine looked to latch on to a lofted pass from Fabian Schar, but was beaten to the ball by the Tottenham goalkeeper. However, the pair collided and Wilson showed great composure to calmly put the ball into the unguarded net.
Referee Jarred Gillett allowed the goal to stand, and the review from VAR Stuart Attwell did not lead to the on-field decision being overturned. Former Newcastle and Tottenham striker Ferdinand backed the decision, and here is a transcript of the half-time exchange on Sky Sports.

JR: If Callum Wilson knocks it past him, it’s a foul and I think Lloris would get sent off for that.
LF: The finish, the composure was excellent, when Lloris comes out, there’s nowhere for him to go. If it was the other way around, unless he knocks it round him, it’s the same decision as a coming together. I’m going to go with the centre forward’s union.
JR: Where can he go? Where can Lloris go? You’re in the forward’s union.
LF: He pulls up there.
JR: I think it’s a foul, I think he impedes [Lloris]. He comes out, Wilson bumps into him, it is unbelievable composure to score but I think I would be so disappointed if I’m the Spurs manager or players. Look at his arm there, it’s a foul. They bump into each other and [Wilson] impedes him.
LF: The goalkeeper would normally get the decision but I’m glad he didn’t. They were both going together, as the ball goes over, great run, great ball, Lloris takes the touch and I don’t see where Wilson can go
