Newcastle's Great Market Caper announces new October date following debut success

A second edition of The Great Market Caper has been announced and, following its city debut, it is bringing with it a whole new bag of treats.

The first late-night social inside Newcastle's historic Grainger Market - which was attended by TV chef Si King, one half of The Hairy Bikers - proved a big hit and the plan now, say organisers, is to make the next one even better. And this will take place on Saturday, October 1 from 6.30pm until midnight.

Sean Bullick, director of Let’s Stick Together Events Ltd which runs the new event, has promised another night of top entertainment, after September's inaugural Caper saw a selection of the market's traders and retro clothing outlets join a programme which included street food, drinks, live music, dance and comedy.

He said: "The format for October’s Caper will be similar: great food, cool bars, live music and DJs, dancing, and comedy. The line-ups however will be very different."

Besides all the existing vendors, Cantina Newcastle - which serves a menu of vegan Mexican tapas - will fill the special guest food vendor spot in October and the popular local Firebrick Brewery will be adding to the range of beers on offer. On the DJ line-up will be Multiminded Music which recently played Lindisfarne Festival.

Popular local rapper Kema Kay will get October's party going, followed by rhythm and blues talents The King Bees. Rounding off the night at the Grainger Market will be Martin Stephenson - billed as 'local legend, musician and raconteur extraordinaire' - who will play a 90-minute set on the main stage.

There will be various stages, pop-up stalls and bars dotted throughout the market and other entertainment on offer on the night will be two line-dancing sessions as well as belly dancing lesson with studio owner Brooke Brown Adams. Local favourite Alfie Joey will act as compere for the comedy programme.

Sean added: “We were delighted to be able to prove the concept at the first Great Market Caper and grateful for all the positive feedback we received after it. With all the tweaks we have made and such an amazing line-up of talent, we are sure this next Caper is going to be another fantastic night out - only in Newcastle!” Tickets for this 16-plus event cost £10 and are available here.
