Newcastle’s difficulties around proposed Joachim Andersen deal outlined as Magpies plot next move

Former West Ham United defender Anton Ferdinand has warned Newcastle United transfer prices will start to become inflated given their success on the pitch and wealthy backing off it. The Saudi led PIF takeover at St. James' Park made the Magpies the richest club in world football and they're beginning to flex their muscles in the transfer market following the arrival of Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak last summer.

Both players have commanded fees in excess of £50million as Eddie Howe and co continue their rebuild on Tyneside. The Toon are expected to bolster their ranks with a move for another defender this summer and Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen is one of a number of players linked to the club.

Andersen has been impressive for the Eagles since signing at Selhurst Park for a fee in the region of £20million and has been hailed for helping Marc Guehi's career kick on. The latter of the duo has earned international recognition after playing alongside Andersen who Ferdinand believes has played a big part.

Speaking to FIVE, Ferdinand said: "Listen, Andersen, I really like him. You've got to double [his fee paid by Palace] at least.

"Because it's Newcastle, that price goes up anyway. That's a fact and that's going to start happening at Newcastle at some point.

"He's definitely a player that I admire. I think he's been fantastic for Marc Guehi.

"I think that partnership at Palace, especially for someone at a young age, I think if you spoke to him about Andersen, he'd tell you how good he is. He's someone that fits the profile for and Eddie Howe type defender because he can play Andersen.

"People only see the defensive attribute to him but he can play by the way."
