Newcastle's Dan Burn mural decorates Ashington shop window ahead of Wembley cup final

A shop window in Ashington has been emblazoned with an image of Dan Burn celebrating after his goal in the Carabao Cup quarter final against Leicester.

The Newcastle defender has been in imperious form since signing for the club in January last year, and Joy Dickinson wanted her shop window to celebrate the success of a local lad.

Joy, who has owned Sew Many Keepsakes for six years, came up with the idea for the window with the Magpies reaching the Carabao Cup Final - their first major final since 1999. It also incorporates a quote from Jack Charlton that reads "nothing is given to you, you've got to work for it", to help make people feel more positive at a time when they might be struggling.

Dan Burn's story in particular is one of redemption, after he was released from Newcastle's academy at 11 years old. He played for several Championship teams as he rebuilt his career and got wider attention playing for Brighton. His £13 million move to Newcastle felt like a full circle moment for the Blyth native.

It's this local connection that spurred Joy on to get in touch with Imogen Clarke, a local artist that she had seen design other shop windows in the area. Joy has spoken about her reasons for this and why she feels it is an important thing to do.

"I love everything about Dan Burn's story, with him being local and how hard he was worked to get here. I think it's massively inspirational and can be seen as really positive at a time when a lot of people are struggling.

"The quote from Jack Charlton on there goes really well with the image as it epitomises Dan's story. Imogen was amazing and she did some incredible work in such a short space of time.

"People are already noticing it and getting photos. Somebody came with their daughter whilst it was being made and she begged to come back when it was finished. As a fan myself, I can't wait for the match in a couple of weeks time."
