Newcastle's Central Park gets set to host one of the UK's biggest Eurovision parties

Newcastle will become a mecca for all things Eurovision on Saturday when Central Park is transformed into a huge fan zone for the final of the contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest is an event that has been going since the early 1950s and every year there is still loads of interest right across the world, with over 8 million viewers in the UK alone tuning in last year to see Italy's Maneskin triumph and UK singer James Newman finish rock bottom with not a single point from either the juries or voting public.

But, there's good news as Eurovision experts and bookies are forecasting a big turnaround in the UK's fortunes this year with Sam Ryder second in the Eurovision odds at the time of writing, after impressing fans across the continent with his anthemic song Space Man. And one place where Union Jacks and other flags will be held aloft come Saturday evening is Times Square in Newcastle city centre as Central Park go all out.

The huge beer garden's Watch-A-Long party is one of the biggest Eurovision events in the whole of the UK and after selling out last year, scores of fans will be dressing up and heading along to (hopefully!) see Sam do the UK proud and find out if predictions of a win for Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra prove to be spot on.

Tickets for the Central Park Eurovision event are still on sale from the Central Park website, priced from £8 per person, with VIP options available.

Organiser Mike Hesketh of Mish:Mash Events told ChronicleLive: "“Saturdays Eurovision screening is set to be our biggest to date with last years sold out event being amazing, and this years venue being much bigger and well covered, it’s going to be a great occasion… and who knows maybe this year we can score some points!”
