Newcastle restaurant My Delhi to do battle in BBC show Britain's Top Takeaways

A massively popular Newcastle restaurant will be thrust into the national spotlight as it appears in new BBC series Britain's Top Takeaways, which will see chefs battle it out over consecutive nights.

There was a lot of excitement about My Delhi opening up in the city centre back in 2019 after, after loads of anticipation it became an instant word of mouth hit as diners raved about is authentic mix of Indian dishes, including big favourites Butter Chicken 1950s and Railway Station Lamb Curry. Well, after winning a place in the hearts of many Geordie customers, My Delhi is being given the chance to impress experts and millions of viewers in the prime time programme which gets going next week.

Right after announcing plans to a branch in Sunderland and offering food in newly revamped bowling alley Gorilla in Newcastle, My Delhi will feature in Britain's Top Takeaway's second episode on Tuesday, May 10 on BBC Two, when Elahi Shah Amin, Director of My Delhi and the restaurant's Executive Chef Gaurav Dayal will fly the flag for the North East.

Britain's Top Takeaways will see some of the nation's top eateries going head to head in a showdown that crowns a different winner each episode. Each stand-alone episode will feature a different takeaway, from Indian to Chinese, kebabs to fish and chips. Chefs from each eatery then cook up their favourite dishes, from a menu including a classic dish, chef’s special, a vegan option and sides, in a kitchen studio in Manchester, with the food then delivered to local households who will score and judge that episode's winner.

My Delhi were approach by producers last year to appear on the show and talking about the process, Elahi said: “We couldn’t believe it when the producers contacted us last year to appear on the show. We introduced our Express Takeaway service during the pandemic to allow our diners to continue to enjoy our delicious authentic Indian food from home.

“For that to then lead to this show is just incredible and big thanks to our diners for all their support. We really enjoyed being part of the show and competing with some fantastic eateries. It was an unforgettable experience. It’s going to be a brilliant show and we’re proud to be flying the flag for the North East.”
