Newcastle have added Chelsea’s Spanish defender Marc Cucurella to their list of summer transfer targets as they plan for the Champions League.
It was current St. James’ Park sporting director Dan Ashworth who brought the long haired raiding full back to Brighton from Getafe when he was the club’s technical director. After just one season on the south coast where he was named player of the year Cucurella moved to Chelsea last August for £60million.
But it’s now believed that new Stamford Bridge boss Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to let the 24-year-old leave as he looks to trim a bloated squad. That has alerted Newcastle although Chelsea would have to be prepared to accept a reduced fee of around £30million for Cucurella who seldom reproduced his Brighton form at the Bridge.
