Newcastle Permanent card glitch still causing customers grief

Newcastle Permanent has said it is working to resolve the issue.

A TECHNICAL glitch is still causing Newcastle Permanent customers grief as they try to tap their cards at retailers across the city.

The Newcastle Herald understands customers had issues trying to pay for goods at Kmart, Coles and Target as well as other retailers on Sunday.

The problem is understood to have started a day earlier, and a Newcastle Permanent spokeswoman said the technical issue involves a third party supplier.

The spokeswoman said the issue has resulted in intermittent outages for some customers using credit or debit payments at certain retailers.

"We are working with our supplier to resolve this as a matter of urgency," she said.

"In the meantime, we encourage affected customers to insert their card and select the cheque or savings option instead.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience."

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Newcastle Permanent said the issue had been resolved, but received a number of comments from customers claiming the issue was ongoing.
