Newcastle parking could become cashless with plans to scrap all coin-operated machines

Newcastle car parks could soon become cashless as council bosses look to scrap all coin-operated ticket machines.

Under new proposals put forward by Newcastle City Council, all coin-operated machines would be gradually withdrawn and replaced with "upgraded" card-enabled ticket machines at every location in the city. If the plans go ahead, the changes are expected to be introduced in early 2023, with a full roll out completed over a six-month period.

The move aims to improve car parking services across the city while also saving the council money. Drivers will be able to have their say on the proposed change during an upcoming consultation period.
