Newcastle notes: 'Whatever it takes' Toon chief's exciting message, Botman battle, Howe's key talks

New Toon director Majed Al Sorour certainly enjoyed himself on Monday night during the 2-0 win over Arsenal as he celebrated with players and fans alike following the terrific evening against the Gunners.

Afterwards, he took to his Linkedin account and stated: "Next season will be better". In the past Newcastle's top brass have tried to manage expectations and not allow people to get carried away.

But it should be noted that there is not only bright ambition at St James' Park these days, there is also a calmness when it comes to doing business. Eddie Howe hinted at that this week when saying United would wait for the right deals.

When replying to another fan on his social account Al Sorour spoke about the vision at the club in their bid to reach the top, commenting: "We will do whatever it takes."

Sven Botman chase not over yet as Newcastle play early exchanges of window calmly

Newcastle United chiefs have not completely thrown the towel in on Lille defender Sven Botman - despite growing talk that AC Milan have won the race to sign him.

Botman is on a list of centre-backs that Newcastle will push for this summer after failing to persuade him to move to the North-East in January. Back then the Dutch Under-21 international was unsure of the move as the Magpies stared the Championship in the face.

But since then a 2022 revival ensure Premier League safety for Eddie Howe and the arrival of another big hitter from Ligue 1 in Bruno Guimaraes has also shown that Newcastle do genuinely mean business. Bruno is actually proving to be somewhat of a Toon salesman after his successful switch from Lyon last January.

The midfielder has hosted fellow Brazil international Lucas Paqueta and filled him in on what life is like in Newcastle with a tour of the city. And word is spreading around Ligue 1, thanks to Bruno, that life is good in the North-East for incoming stars.

Botman is wanted by Milan, who are briefing Italian journalists they are set to win the battle for Botman at €30million, and there has also been an interesting link with Manchester United this week. With the Red Devils set to appoint Erik ten Hag, who knows Botman well due to their Ajax links, whether the Old Trafford side have turned up too late in the battle to sign him remains to be seen.

Newcastle believe that they will at least get another opportunity to hold some talks with Botman via his agent. And Newcastle's belief that they could still get him has resulted in Eddie Howe waiting before making a firm decision on James Tarkowski.

Eddie Howe to hold talks with existing players before holiday

The head coach will still be busy in the next 10 days or so, even though the season is over. Howe plans a well deserved family holiday but will give clarity to a number of players about their futures.

That list includes Matt Targett but the Aston Villa left-back has not agreed anything just yet. Interest from the south may prove a factor but he has been told he is wanted by the club and certainly the fans.

Howe said on Friday: "I'll be sitting down with my players at the end of the season and discussing future," Howe said, adding: "I'll be doing the same with Matt. He's been outstanding. "The biggest compliment I can play any loan player is that I view him as an integral member of the squad."
