Newcastle Muslims excited to be able to celebrate Ramadan properly after pandemic

Muslims all over the world will begin celebrating the month of Ramadan from this Saturday.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. The fasting period during Ramadan is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam and it lasts for 30 days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

During Ramadan, Muslims don't eat food or drink any liquids from sunrise to sunset. Those participating will usually wake up early to eat a big meal called suhoor, so that they won't be hungry throughout the day.
