Newcastle Loves awards 2022 launch - nominate your favourite places to go in the city

It's been three years since they successful launch and we are bringing back the Newcastle Loves awards for 2022 to celebrate the best places to eat, drink and play in the city.

Over 30,000 of you had your say when Newcastle Loves made its debut in 2019, with a large crowd gathering to find out the first ever winners at an awards bash in May of that year. We had planned on making the ceremony an annual occurrence, but Covid had other ideas, meaning we had to make the tough decision to postpone them for two tears in a row.

However, after a tough few years for everyone involved in the hospitality and entertainment industries, ChronicleLive want to honour the people and places that make Newcastle one of the best cities in the UK, if not the world.

There are 12 categories this time around, with a few different accolades to 2019, including Covid success story, which will recognise a person or business who came up new ideas to open a venue or service during the pandemic, or be inventive to keep their existing brand going.

Newcastle Loves nominations are open now and will remain open until 11.59pm on Sunday, July 3. You can nominate in each of the 12 categories. via the link towards the bottom of the story, with venues able to be nominated in more than one, where appropriate and we'd encourage you to put a venue in each one as we want to support a huge cross section of the amazing places Newcastle has to offer..

Voting os free, the shortlists will then be drawn up, before the voting re-opens and the winners unveiled at an awards ceremony in August.

The categories for this year are: Best Pub - where it's for a pre-match pint, a swift drink after work or take shelter from the elements, we want to know your favourite pub in Newcastle and the surrounding area.

Best Bar - the places where you go for 'one' and end up staying much longer! Best Restaurant - Newcastle is home to some absolutely amazing and award-winning restaurants, but which is your favourite?

Best Casual Dining - whether it's your top takeaway stop or the place you nip to for a quick bite to eat, tell us your favourite.

Best Entertainment Venue - one of the broadest categories in this year's awards. Whether it's the best place to go to a gig, comedy night, see a film or enjoy a show - the choice is yours!

Best LGBTQ+ Venue - Newcastle is home to an array of great venues which fit this bill, whether it's to go and watch some top notch drag cabaret, have a catch up with friends, sip on some cocktails or dance until dawn. With the city hosting UK Pride this year we want to celebrate the places that are a thriving and important part of the community. And of course, they can also be nominated in other categories as well!

Best Cocktail Haunt - there are plenty of venues in Newcastle with some marvellous mixologists behind theirs bars, whipping up thirst quenching tipples every day of the week. Which is the best?

Best Late Night Venue - we're definitely all guilty of being lead stray on nights out and ending up in one of these! And, thankfully, for party animals in Newcastle, there are plenty to choose from!

Best Club Night - promoters in the city work tirelessly to keep coming up with nights to satisfy different crowds, with themed events, DJs and eye-catching decor. Who should win this one?

Best Sunday Dinner - THE most important meal of the week right? But where in and around Newcastle is your go-to for a Sunday roast?

Best Outdoor Space - as well as lots going on indoors, Newcastle has been blessed with a host of outdoor spaces for us to socialise in.

Covid success story - a place or person who managed to launch a venture, or keep their business or businesses going during the pandemic, with epic results.

We hope you all agree that Newcastle deserves an awards of its own to celebrate the hard work done by so many people and places in the city and gives Newcastle Loves your support.

As were our original intentions in 2019, we'd love this to become an annual event in the calendar.
