Newcastle are determined to be busy this summer transfer window and have sealed Matt Targett's permanent move to St James' Park in a £15million deal.
A striker and a central defender remain top of the shopping list for new director of football Dan Ashworth and manager Eddie Howe. Newcastle are making progress in their search for more firepower up front and have agreed a fee with Stade de Reims for Hugo Ekitike.
Mirror Sport has the latest transfer news, including updates on Ekitike and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Newcastle move closer to sealing Ekitike deal
The Newcastle Chronicle report that Newcastle remain locked in talks with Hugo Ekitike's switch to St James' Park.
Newcastle have agreed a fee of £30.6million with Stade de Reims for Ekitike and are now discussing personal terms. Borussia Dortmund were also keen on the striker, but have cooled their interest to leave the path clear for the Magpies to seal the deal.
Newcastle have maintained their interest in Ekitike after failing to land him in January and believe he could make a big impact at St James' Park.
Newcastle yet to submit a bid for Calvert-Lewin
Insidefutbol carry a report from The Athletic, claiming that Newcastle have yet to table an offer to Everton for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe likes Calvert-Lewin and the England striker is unsettled at Goodison Park. However after a fine campaign in 2020-21, Calvert-Lewin managed just five goals in 17 Premier League appearances during an injury-hit season and Howe is considering his various attacking targets.
The Toon have had a £30.6million offer accepted by Stade de Reims for Hugo Ekitike and Howe may be focussing on completing that move, while leaving Calvert-Lewin on the backburner.
Newcastle rival Tottenham for Jack Harrison
The Newcastle Chronicle claim Newcastle are rivalling Tottenham in the tug-of-war over Leeds' Jack Harrison.
Harrison was one of Leeds' few decent performers last season as they survived on the final day, scoring eight goals from his wide left position. His form has alerted Tottenham and now Newcastle are weighing up a move for the former Manchester City winger.
Harrison will not come cheap and Leeds could demand in excess of £30million because he still has two years left on his contract.
