Anthony Gordon admitted he was facing a 'big summer' following a difficult start to life at Newcastle United. It is fair to say the January signing has delivered so far after leading the line and helping England under-21s to European Championship glory.
The young Lions held their nerve to edge past Spain in the final on Saturday, courtesy of a deflected Cole Palmer free-kick credited to Curtis Jones. Levi Colwill conceded a penalty in the final minute of added time following a VAR review, but James Trafford pulled off a remarkable double save to ensure Lee Carsley's side lifted the trophy.
Gordon has been utilised in a central striking role for England throughout the competition, netting in the group-stage win against Israel and the quarter-final success over Portugal. The 22-year-old admits he is still getting used to playing up front, but feels it could become his 'best' position due to his speed.
The former Everton star previously revealed he had been left 'hurt' by the nature of his exit from Goodison Park. The Toffees' statement confirming the transfer was judged by many to be cold, with no message of thanks for his contribution to the club.

Everton also declined to congratulate Gordon following England's final success, sharing the post with a message for current prospects Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner, along with former midfielder Carsley. Gordon was handed UEFA's Player of the Tournament award ahead of the trophy lift, and this is how Newcastle fans reacted to the post and the forward's notable omission.
