Eddie Howe has discussed Newcastle United's current transfer plans following the away draw at Brighton. Elsewhere, Alan Shearer and Bruno Guimaraes have both given their reactions to the stalemate at the Amex Stadium.
Here are your latest Newcastle United headlines for August 13.
Transfer latest
Eddie Howe has spoken of Newcastle United’s ongoing quest to add more new faces to his squad. The Magpies were held 0-0 by Brighton on a day in which they lacked cutting edge.
When asked about transfers on the South Coast, Howe said: “As I’ve said many times, we’re looking. We are aware that there are certain parts of the squad that we’d love to strengthen and give us more options.
“But that’s no reflection of anybody we currently have in our squad because I think we’ve shown that we love everybody within the group. There’s a very good feeling internally, within the dynamic of the team, so we desperately don’t want to harm that either.”

Bruno admission
Bruno Guimaraes believes it was 'not even close' to being his best performance but has praised Newcastle United supporters following the draw at Brighton.
Guimaraes took to social media following the draw to praise the role of supporters in earning an 'important point', while accepting it was not his best display in black-and-white. He posted: "Not even close to be my best game, but we keep 1 important point and another clean sheat [sic], let’s keep working for the news [sic] challenges. Thanks Geordies for the best support as always."

Howe on Brighton draw
Eddie Howe has reflected on the goal that wasn't at Brighton after Callum Wilson watched on as his first half strike was chalked off. The Magpies had to settle for a point at the Amex Stadium but Howe was relatively pleased with the day on the South Coast.
However, it could have been even better had Wilson's goal stood at the Amex Stadium. Howe said afterwards: "I’d need to see it again. My initial reaction was I thought it was harsh and given too quickly.
"The decision could have been let go to see what VAR said but it wasn’t to be."

Loan market options
Newcastle United are ready to look to sides like Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool as the Premier League loan scene begins to gather pace. With top-flight bosses starting to whittle their squads down ahead of deadline day, Eddie Howe is ready to play the loan card he vowed to during pre-season.
United will be in a good place on that score as they can offer loanees Premier League action and the potential of a permanent deal if things go well. Howe and sporting director Dan Ashworth have will hope their excellent contact books pay off in the final few weeks of the window.
Newcastle have already been linked with Chelsea stars like Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Armando Broja with Thomas Tuchel set to make final decisions in due course. Chelsea are likely to hold on to Broja if they don't sign another striker. So it's worth keeping an eye on incoming business at Stamford Bridge this month.
And that will be across the board in the Premier League, with Newcastle included on that list as they too have decisions to make on outgoing loans with one of their goalkeepers set to leave and squad members like Javier Manquillo, Matty Longstaff and Matty Bondswell all waiting to see where they stand.

Smith signing
Newcastle United have added another youth talent to their ranks with the signing of East Fife goalkeeper Jude Smith. The 19-year-old stopper impressed the Magpies during a trial earlier this summer and has signed a two-year deal with the club.
Smith joined Celtic as a youngster before being released by the Scottish giants last summer. He was snapped up by East Fife and made 25 league appearances as the club were relegated from the Scottish League One. Despite the team's poor performance, Smith picked up East Fife Supporters’ Club young player and players’ player of the year, and the East Fife Supporters’ Trust player of the year.
The deal for Smith reiterates the point that Newcastle have changed their transfer focus since the club's £300m takeover and are now targeting the best young players from around the country, as well as top first-team talent. The club's youth ranks were never a priority under Mike Ashley's regime and subsequently suffered.

Moments missed
Newcastle United battled hard to earn a 0-0 draw with Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. The south coast clash was by no means a memorable spectacle, with the Magpies lucky to walk away with a point.
Eddie Howe was forced into some changes before the game with Matt Targett absent through a dead leg. That gave Sven Botman his full, competitive Newcastle debut as Dan Burn moved back to left-back.
Here are the moments you may have missed from the 0-0 draw between Newcastle and Brighton
