Wilson's improved contract
Callum Wilson has triggered an improved deal in his Newcastle United contract - after a clause was activated from the arrangement he originally signed in 2020.
The star striker was always contracted to the club until 2024 but the clause in his deal brought Wilson and Newcastle back into discussions. Wilson has scored 23 goals in 43 Premier League starts for the Magpies since arriving from AFC Bournemouth for £20million.

The new deal brings him closer to Newcastle's top earners and will offer incentives to extend the deal beyond 2024. Wilson has three goals in four games and is fighting for a place at the World Cup with England with Gareth Southgate yet to decide his 26-man squad.

Howe on Almiron
Miguel Almiron will be trying to achieve something he has only managed once for Newcastle United this weekend when the Magpies take on Brentford at home.
The Paraguay skipper has only managed to score in back to back games once in the Premier League, when he netted in the 4-1 win away to Bournemouth and the 2-2 draw at home to West Ham during the lockdown in 2020. Almiron did manage a three game scoring spell earlier that year but that trio of games included two FA Cup ties against Rochdale.
Eddie Howe knows that the playmaker will be judged by media and fans on one thing but wanted to underline his other attritbutes.

Bellamy's Ashworth chat
Craig Bellamy has no doubt that Newcastle United are going to have success in the coming years after having the chance to speak to sporting director Dan Ashworth last summer.
Bellamy, who is now an assistant to Vincent Kompany at Burnley, was on the touchline when the Clarets faced his former side in a training game in Portugal back in July. Bellamy was not only struck by the talent of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes et al that day but, also, the sheer numbers of staff on Newcastle's bench as the club's owners strengthen at all levels.
It will inevitably have brought back some memories for Bellamy of his time at Man City. Indeed, Bellamy offers a unique perspective on Newcastle's new era - not only as a key player when the Magpies were last challenging and playing in the Champions League but, also, as someone who joined City soon after the club's own transformative takeover in 2008.

Richardson's departure
Newcastle United are searching for a new Under-21 assistant coach to work alongside Elliott Dickman - after the departure of Kevin Richardson.
The former England international has served the club well and at times has stepped in as reserve team boss. But leaves to spend more time with his family.
Richardson said: "I have very much enjoyed my work at the Academy and wish the players and staff every success for the future as I look forward to spending more time with my family after what has been an incredible career."

Kuol warning
Newcastle United have sold a 'pathway' for Garang Kuol to break into the first team in the 'next couple of years'. That is the view of Central Coast Mariners head coach Nick Montgomery, who is confident the wonderkid will 'thrive' as long as he stays away from 'partying' and other distractions.
The Magpies confirmed the deal for Kuol on Friday, with the highly-rated young forward set to join the club in January next year. The teenager made his senior international debut for Australia last month, and is expected to be loaned out to a European club for the remainder of the campaign.
Kuol netted on his A-League debut in April 2022, before going on to score a further four goals in his first seven league appearances. The teenager also faced Barcelona as part of the 2022 A-League All Stars team, with Xavi going on to praise the rising star's performance from the bench.
Montgomery spent three years working as assistant coach with the Mariners before taking the top job in the summer of 2021. The former Sheffield United midfielder is confident Kuol has the 'focus' to become the 'best player he can be' in black-and-white.

Midfield competition
Eddie Howe says his midfield is starting to have a "good look" about it as the season settles down. The absence of Jonjo Shelvey in the first six or seven games was there for all to see as Howe turned to Bruno Guimaraes to provide balance in the engine room.
But with Shelvey due back he may have a fight on his hands with Bruno, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock coming into their best form.
All three shone at Fulham in a 4-1 win with Willock grabbing two assists, Bruno teeing up Miguel Almiron for a wonder goal and Sean Longstaff getting on the scoresheet.

Longstaff's improvement
Eddie Howe continues to get the best out of Newcastle United players who don't always naturally grab the headlines on Tyneside. Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes' talent is clear for all to see but it is the Magpies boss' ability to improve the club's unsung heroes that is really benefitting the north east outfit at present.
Rafa Benitez had a similar quality during his Newcastle stint, as he eked that little bit more from cheap buys and young additions. Much of the Spaniard's work with fringe players was undone under Steve Bruce as the likes of Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff reverted to type following the change in the dugout.
But Longstaff is now one of those players flourishing from Howe's guidance, with the former Bournemouth coach putting an arm round his midfielder's shoulder and championing him in public when some sections of the fanbase weren't so sure as to whether he had a long-term future at his boyhood club.
