Al-Hilal victory
Newcastle United picked up where they left off before the World Cup break by turning on the style in Riyadh with a 5-0 win over Al-Hilal.
Two goals each from Joelinton and Miguel Almiron plus a late strike from Dylan Stephenson completed the rout in the Middle East - and it meant that Newcastle picked up the Diriyah Cup to cap a positive trip to Saudi Arabia.

January transfer premium
Eddie Howe admits he is braced to be hit with "a premium" when it comes to the January sales as Newcastle United look to build for the second half of the season.
United spent almost £100million on Sven Botman and Alexander Isak alone in the summer window but says those are the type of players who can challenge for a place in his top three side. It's unknown exactly how much Newcastle have to spend in this window and Howe has already warned there could hurdles as far as FFP is concerned.

Saint-Maximin interview
Allan Saint-Maximin admits the tougher pre-takeover situation on Tyneside left him feeling down and dejected - but he never seriously thought about quitting Newcastle United.
Saint-Maximin was at times the star man at Newcastle as he helped haul the team to Premier League survival in 2019/20 and 2020/21. But now he finds himself at a club striving for a place in Europe.
It's exactly the type of ambition that Saint-Maximin pleaded for in his first couple of years at the club. And with owners on board who share that vision, the French star is excited about what lies ahead.

New deal for Karius?
Eddie Howe is keen to extend Loris Karius' short-term deal until the end of the season with the German goalkeeper regarded as a good back-up choice for Nick Pope.
It is expected that Martin Dubravka will remain at Manchester United despite Howe - at one stage - open to discussing the possibility of a return to Newcastle after the Slovakia stopper struggled for game-time with the Red Devils. Dubravka was on the bench for much of the early part of his loan spell at Old Trafford.

Hayden on FA fine
Isaac Hayden has revealed that Newcastle United paid his £19,000 fine last season after Eddie Howe 'loved' his tweet.
Hayden accepted an FA charge of improper conduct following the social media post, which was written in the aftermath of Newcastle's 1-0 defeat against Chelsea. The tweet read: 'Some performance from the boys against 12 men'.
The injured midfielder, who was watching on from home, made the comment after referee David Coote decided against giving the visitors a penalty at Stamford Bridge after Trevoh Chalobah pulled down Jacob Murphy. The tweet was found to be in breach of FA Rule 3.1. for 'attacking the integrity of the official' and an independent regulatory commission handed Hayden a £19,000 fine. However, Hayden, who is now on loan at Norwich City, did not have to stump up the cash himself.
