Newcastle evening headlines: Jesse Lingard and Dele Alli latest as Toon land in Saudi

Your Newcastle United evening headlines for Monday, January 24.

Toon ‘push’ for Lingard

Newcastle chiefs are desperately trying to persuade Jesse Lingard to join the club.

Our man Lee Ryder reports that Newcastle have gone back with an new loan fee offer, plus add-ons if the Magpies stay in the Premier League.

However, as his contract expires at the end of the season, the Red Devils do not wish to loan him out and an inflated loan fee would be seen as a compromise.

Magpies land in Saudi

The Newcastle squad have arrived in Saudi Arabia for their mid-season training camp.

With no top-flight fixture for over a fortnight, the first team have flown to Jeddah to undertake warm-weather training ahead of a crucial week in the transfer window.

Amanda Staveley has jetted off with the squad but husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will stay in England as the owners frantically look to tie up deals for new players before the window slams shut.

Dele deal as plan B

The Guardian names Dele Alli as Newcastle's backup option if the Magpies’ pursuit for Lingard fails.

The Spurs midfielder is surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte and has made just 10 Premier League appearances this season.

The 25-year-old has lost his England spot and, with the World Cup in Qatar just 10 months away, needs to find regular first-team football to have any chance of featuring in Gareth Southgate’s plans.

A move would be best for all parties as Alli looks to reignite a career that looked destined for greatness a few years ago.
