Newcastle will once again host rugby league's festival of games after it was confirmed Magic Weekend will return to the city in 2023. In what is expected to be the last-ever hosting of the event before a major reform to the sport, St James' Park will play host to all 12 Super League teams over two days at the start of June 2023.
On the back of a hugely successful RLWC2021 opening fixture yesterday, Super League have confirmed that the 16th Magic Weekend will take place at St James’ Park on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June, 2023. It means that Newcastle will host the event for a record seventh time.
Rhodri Jones, chief commercial officer at Super League said: “We are delighted to announce the return of Magic Weekend to Newcastle. It is a firm favourite with fans and a date that players look forward to in the calendar. I’d also like to thank Sky Sports, Newcastle United and Newcastle City Council for their continued support of the event.”
