Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has valid security concern at Turf Moor amid spate of pitch invasions

Eddie Howe is hoping he and his players can avoid any moments like the one Patrick Vieira found himself caught up in at Goodison Park on Thursday night.

A mass pitch invasion saw fans confront the French boss amid the chaos after the final whistle of the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace. Newcastle have a valid concern about a possible pitch invasion at Turf Moor, not least because the location of the dressing room is in the far corner of the ground at Burnley.

Howe said: "I don't know the actual briefs we've been given in terms of security and in terms of the end of the game, but I'm sure it's something we will discuss.

"It's sad to think that we have to do that when we're concentrating on a game, but we're well aware of the situation."

Howe knows Turf Moor well after being manager at the Lancashire club and players may need to make a sharp exit at the final whistle. But that might not be possible for all of them and with emotions running high, Howe is concerned for his players.

Howe said: "The logistics of the stadium mean that unfortunately, you don't have a quick exit. From my perspective as the manager and the coaching staff. I obviously know the stadium well so it is a concern but I don't want to build it up too much.

"I hope that things are put in place that we can guarantee the safety, I'm not just thinking of me but, my players. The focus should be on our performance and making sure we give our best. "

And when asked about the incident at Everton, Howe added: "I'm not going to lie, it is concerning. I'm not going to sit on the fence and brush it off. I thought it was a concerning moment for everyone.

"You've got a Premier League manager (Vieira) surrounded by supporters from another team. It's a very dangerous moment potentially. We have to act now to try and avert a potential disaster because no one would want to see that.

"The safety of everyone should be the first priority is the safety of everyone and I include the supporters in that. That's not my field but I think it's the responsibilities of the club and police, stewards to create a safe environment for everyone."
