Newcastle Airport set to be 100% solar-powered by 2035 as massive renewable energy farm approved

A massive solar farm that will provide 100% of Newcastle International Airport’s power has won the backing of city decision-makers.

Almost 40,000 solar panels look set to be installed on green belt land next to the runway, in an effort to make the airport carbon neutral by 2035.

The 16MW facility was approved by Newcastle City Council on Friday afternoon, though it will also need the Government’s sign-off too due to the fact that the major development is in the green belt.
