The runway at Newcastle Airport was temporarily closed on Monday evening while the Royal Australian Air Force investigated an airfield issue.
A Newcastle Airport spokeswoman said that following the disruption due to an issue with the runway lights, flights were operating to schedule on Tuesday morning.
"Normal operations have resumed and passengers are encouraged to check directly with their airline for the latest information regarding their flight," the spokeswoman said.
Newcastle Airport confirmed flights did not operate into the evening on August 10 due to an airfield issue affecting night operations, which was later confirmed to be faulty lighting on the runway.
The airport was working alongside the Royal Australian Airforce and its airline partners to manage the disruption.
As a result, flights did not operate on Monday night.
The Newcastle Herald has reached out to the airport for updated information on the lighting issue.
The Herald earlier confirmed the issue with the runway was not related to recent reports that drones were flying near Newcastle Airport and the Williamtown air force base earlier this month.
The Daily Telegraph revealed that "multiple confirmed" uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) reportedly breached restricted airspace between July 11 and 13.
The Telegraph reported that the Australian Defence Force (ADF) did not know who was operating the drones or why, but had issued reports to the NSW Police Counter-UAS Unit.
