Newcastle ace Callum Wilson sends James Maddison 4-word transfer instruction after Tottenham bid

Tottenham transfer target James Maddison has received several messages of interest from Newcastle and England striker Callum Wilson. The pair are both away with the Three Lions on international duty for Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

Spurs have emerged as serious candidates to land Maddison, football.london understands are preparing a bid for the Leicester City star after he was relegated from the Premier League. Maddison was a player looked at last summer by Antonio Conte and the club but the Foxes priced him out of a late window move.

Now, with Maddison not likely to be playing in the Championship next season, Tottenham are looking once more to add attacking intent to their midfield and have sounded out the 26-year-old as a key priority for new coach Ange Postecoglou.

Although football.london understands reports of a £50 million ($63.9m) double bid for Maddison and fellow Leicester teammate Harvey Barnes are wide of the mark, a bid for the former Norwich man is expected as efforts to bring in new players heighten.

Just like last summer, though, Tottenham are not alone in their desire to sign Maddison and face competition from Newcastle and Chelsea if they are to secure him. With that in mind, Magpies star and former Coventry City forward Wilson has made a comedic plea to his new international teammate on Instagram.

With the pair linking up at St George's Park for training for their country, Wilson posted two separate hints and messages to Maddison. First he wrote: "Just two Coventry boys having fun," alongside images of the duo battling for possession and pulling each other's shirts.

He then went one step further and openly said: "Newcastle is this way," alongside an image of him holding Maddison and appearing to drag him away.

They are yet to play with each for club or country despite overlapping briefly in the Midlands. However, with the financial power of Newcastle and the lure of Champions League football and an English core at the heart of Eddie Howe's team, the Toon make an attractive proposition.

For Tottenham, the task is now to try and match any offers for the player, who would usually be available for less after the relegation and monetary demands of Leicester. However, the Foxes have made a name for being tough negotiators even with the circumstances stacked against them.

Spurs could now do with Harry Kane pulling his own tricks on England duty and putting in a good word to Maddison. Then again, there is still uncertainty over his own long-term future in north London.
