Match abandoned: Australia retain the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy

After a quick visit to this sodden Bay Oval pitch, umpires have elected to abandon the second T20I. In the end we got 11 balls of cricket – a dismal statistic. However, this non-event match ensures Australia secure the series. We will return (hopefully) for the third match of this series tomorrow where New Zealand will strive to square the series.

Ultimately, Australia hold the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy for another year.

Thanks for your company (and patience) tonight, folks. Tune in tomorrow at 4.15pm AEST or 7.15pm NZ time. Hopefully we’ll get clear skies and terrific cricket.

Bad news, OBO fans: This looks like heavy rain and so the heavy covers are being dragged on by ground staff at the Bay Oval. Unfortunately, that means more uncovering time and also more clean-up in the area around the pitch… if/ when this rain clears.

Not only is this rotten news for cricket fans at the ground and following around the world but also for New Zealand. If this game is cancelled Australia will retain the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy given they won the previous series 3-0 last February.

Here’s a recap on how the Aussies did it in 2024…
