New York has confirmed 162 measles cases this year as of Oct. 17, according to state health department figures reported by Reuters. When Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a State Disaster Emergency on Oct. 5, the state had counted 108 cases as of Oct. 3, according to the governor's office. That is 54 more cases, a 50% increase, in about two weeks.
On Oct. 21, Crain's New York Business reported that Hochul had asked U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for federal staffing help and a change in federal vaccine policy.
