New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson will make a guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU this autumn.
NBC announced on Thursday that Brunson is set to feature in the fifth episode of the season, scheduled for broadcast on 5 November. Specific details regarding his role have not been disclosed.
Brunson also appeared on Monday during the opening of the Emmy Awards telecast, which was hosted by Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay.
Hargitay is a Knicks fan who attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals as New York overturned a 29-point deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106, a victory that led the franchise to its first title since 1973. Hargitay and Brunson hugged on court after the game.
Brunson, who plays point guard for the Knicks, spearheaded his team's historic championship win, averaging 28.4 points during the playoffs.
Hargitay, 62, who has starred in Law and Order: SVU for the past 27 years, recently hosted last Sunday’s Emmy Awards. During her opening monologue, she pretended not to know the word “finale,” given that she’s never had one. She also poked fun at Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, joking that wisecracks about his name are unfair as his real name is “Richard Penis.”
She also spoofed Nicole Kidman’s famous advertisement for AMC cinemas, only to be interrupted by Kidman herself. “Zip it, movie lady,” Hargitay told her. “It’s TV’s turn tonight.”
Hargitay is herself an Emmy winner four times over. She won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2006 and Best Documentary in 2017 for I Am Evidence.
At the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month, she won two more Emmys for her documentary about her mother Jayne Mansfield, My Mom Jayne.
Elsewhere, Brunson has also been has also been confirmed a guest host for the new season of Saturday Night Live. The 30-year-old will make his hosting debut on Sept. 26 alongside musical guest Katseye, a pop girl group.
Other basketball stars who previously hosted the show include Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
