New York announces World Cup shuttle bus price reduction ahead of England match

  • Shuttle bus fares for England's upcoming World Cup match against Panama at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey have been significantly reduced following widespread fan discontent.
  • New York state governor Kathy Hochul announced the bus ticket price for travel from Grand Central Terminal or Port Authority in New York to the stadium has been cut from $80 (£60) to $20 (£15).
  • The initial high costs drew considerable criticism from England fans, with one supporter highlighting that transport to the US games would cost more than attending the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.
  • Further transport relief includes New Jersey governor Mikie Sherrill confirming that NJ Transit train fares have also been reduced from $150 (£111) to a $98 (£73) return journey, with tickets scheduled to go on sale on Wednesday.
  • Governor Hochul added that 20 per cent of the available shuttle bus tickets will be reserved for New York residents, acknowledging their contribution to hosting the event.
