New Year's Eve TV guide: All the best shows to watch as you welcome in 2023

If you are not heading out to party on New Year's Eve there is plenty of TV to enjoy. From celebrity guests to side-splitting comedy, there will be no falling asleep in front of the telly as you countdown to midnight.

BBC, ITV and Channel 4 have filled their schedules so all you need is your snacks, maybe a tipple or two and your favourite blanket to snuggle up on the big night. The fun doesn't stop on New Year's Eve as New Year's Day is also packed with great telly with BBC drama Happy Valley returning and Welsh TV personality Carol Vorderman appearing in a New Year special of Taskmaster on Channel 4.

Here is some of the best TV you can enjoy on New Year's Eve.

BBC One

7.20pm to 9.10pm - Yesterday: From 7.20pm BBC One will be showing the 2019 film Yesterday. The film is a fantasy comedy starring Himesh Patel and Lily James. Cycling home after a gig, aspiring musician Jack is hit by a bus during a strange power cut. He wakes up to find himself in a world where nobody has heard of the Beatles, so takes advantage of this by passing their songs off as his own.

9.10pm to 10.10pm - That's My Jam: Comedian Mo Gilligan is hosting a New Year's Eve music game show, That's My Jam, from 9.10pm on BBC One. He will be joined by guests including Donny Osmond and Amber Riley as they take on epic music challenges to be declared That's My Jam champion.

10.25pm to 11.30pm - The Graham Norton Show: Join Graham on his orange sofa as he welcomes celebrity guests, including Olivia Colman, Hugh Laurie and Callum Scott Howells, to chat about their year in 2022.

11.30pm to 12.45am - Sam Ryder Rocks New Year's Eve: Eurovision star Sam Ryder is presenting a New Year's Eve concert from Riverside Studios in Hammersmith and the London fireworks will be shown between his sets.

ITV1

6.30pm to 7.30pm - The Chase: The Bloopers 2021: If you are looking for a laugh you can enjoy behind-the-scenes bloopers and funny mistakes from the ITV game show The Chase. Bradley Walsh is presenting the show and The Chasers, including Jenny Ryan and Mark Labbett, will also appear.

8.30pm to 10.35pm - The National Lottery's New Year's Eve Big Bash: This big entertainment show is being hosted by Jason Manford and Alesha Dixon and they will be joined by guests including Tom Grennan, Adam Lambert, Joel Corry, Raye, Welsh star Katherine Jenkins and Cirque du Soleil.

10.35pm to 11.40pm - Jonathan Ross' New Year Comedy Special: Chat show host Jonathan Ross is back with a New Year special. There will be a lot of comedy, with comedians appearing including Tom Allen and Judi Love, and music from the house band Ezra Collective.

Channel 4

6.40pm to 9pm - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: Settle down and enjoy this classic film on New Year's Eve on Channel 4.

9pm to 11pm - The Last Leg of the Year: Hosts Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker are joined by many celebrities including Ellie Simmons and Rylan, to take part in a spectacular satirical look back at the highs and lows of the past year.

11pm to 12.35am - Adam Hills: Clown Heart: If you fancy more comedy from Adam Hills you can watch his stand-up comedy show from the Apollo on New Year's Eve.

BBC Two

11.30pm to 1.35am - Jools' Annual Hootenanny: New Year's Eve is not New Year's Eve without Jools Holland. He will be joined by guests including George Ezra, Gabrielle, Andy Fairweather and many more to count the New Year in on BBC Two.
