Fast-approaching New Year's Day will fall on a Sunday, meaning a lot of stores will be closed.
And on top of that, a few supermarkets are planning to close their doors on January 1 as well. Those that will open might operate on reduced hours, too.
All of this combined might make it tricky should you decide to pop out for some bread or milk for your New Year's tea.
So that you aren't met with closed doors and the disappointment that comes with it, we have put together a list of New Year's opening hours for major supermarkets.
Supermarket opening hours on New Year's Day
The Big Four, that's Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons, will be opening on New Year's Day for the most part, although there may be some alteration to opening hours which can vary by branch.
Tesco: Tesco branches are likely to be open from 10AM until 4PM on January 1. Store times will vary depending on the branch and some will close on New Year's day, so be sure to check the store locator for your local supermarket.
Asda: Approximate opening hours are 10AM to 4PM on January 1. Find your nearest Asda store using the store locator tool.
Sainsbury's: On New Year's Day, the majority of supermarkets will be open between 10AM & 4PM. Convenience stores will be open between 9am & 9pm. Check Sainsbury's store locator here.
Morrisons: The majority of Morrison's branches will remain open and will operate between 10AM and 4PM on January 1. This may vary by branch, so check its online store locator here.
Supermarkets closed on New Year's Day
Below is a list of supermarkets which will close the majority of their branches on January 1. However certain branches may be open, so be sure to check your local store on the supermarket's branch locator.

The majority of supermarkets will be open on January 2, although they may continue operate on reduced hours until January 3.
