New World Rugby rankings make England best team in Six Nations as Wales still behind Scotland

Another weekend of Test match rugby means that the official world rankings have seen some movement once again.

Wales may have enjoyed a narrow win over Scotland but they remain eighth in the rankings, just below. Gregor Townsend's seventh-placed side.

They drop from sixth to seventh in the world and are overtaken by Australia, who did not play a match.

Elsewhere, Ireland have dropped two places in the rankings from third to fifth following their defeat to France in Paris.

England take their spot following their 33-0 demolition of Italy, moving up one place, and France also move from fifth to fourth after enjoying victory over Ireland.

It means that Eddie Jones' side are now the top-ranked Six Nations team in the world, whilst the top two of New Zealand and South Africa remain unaffected.

Despite their latest hiding, Italy remain 14th in the world, below Georgia and above Romania.

World Rugby rankings top 10

1. South Africa, 2. New Zealand, 3. England, 4. France, 5. Ireland, 6. Australia, 7. Scotland, 8. Wales, 9. Argentina, 10. Japan.
