A fleet of green minibuses are due to launch this summer to connect people in different parts of the Bristol area to main bus and train routes. Unlike regular buses, they will not operate on a set timetable but according to customer demand, with passengers able to hail one via an Uber-style app in the eligible areas.
A £3 million investment has been secured by The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) to allow those living in less connected zones across the region to order a bus by app, web or phone. They are new to the West of England, the metro mayor said, but similar schemes have been implemented in other parts of the country including in Oxford in 2018.
The 'WEST link' service will run between 7am-7pm from Monday-Saturday. The minibuses will be in large parts of North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and parts of Bristol including Windmill Hill, Knowle, Brislington and St Annes. Within this overall area, there will be local zones.
