South Tyneside engineering specialist HQ Fabrication Ltd is set to create new jobs after significant contract wins triggered strong growth.
The Jarrow-based business was launched as a one-man operation five years ago to solve problems through engineering for a range of sectors, including food manufacturing, oil and gas and mining, heavy manufacturing and satellite communications. Since then the company, which designs, fabricates and engineers products for clients across Europe, has seen steady growth with a number of significant contract wins, which has allowed managing director Chris Hall to reinvest back into the business.
Mr Hall now plans to create a new department for the automotive industry, which will lead to the creation of up a number of engineering and admin roles. It is also planning to develop its own product portfolio, to help it establish a good manufacturing foothold in the region.

The growth comes three years after HQ Fabrication Ltd started working on offshore wind projects, supplying larger wind farms with fabricated equipment in the UK. The company is now also working with North East-based beanbag manufacturer Bazaar Group, helping it to expand through the design and manufacture of a new production system for its German manufacturing plant.
Mr Hall said: “It’s an extremely exciting time for the business, in the last two years we’ve won a series of larger contracts in offshore and renewables which has enabled us to expand and build the business further. Our growing team has a combined portfolio of over 100 years in a number of industries, and we also recently hired two young workers through the Kickstart Scheme.
“We see real growth in the automotive sector, which has led us to create a new department in the business, which will in turn create more high-quality jobs. We want to repair products rather than replace and this is a key factor in our business.
“In the next five years, we’re looking to produce, manufacture and supply high quality products at a competitive price point in the UK, taking away the need to import products from abroad and work closely with our clients to service their needs and solve problems.”
