New Ulez map: Where has it expanded to in London?

Ulez has expanded to cover the entirety of London, bringing all London boroughs under the low emission zone scheme.

The expansion of the ultra low emission zone kicks-in after originally being introduced in 2019 with the mission of cleaning up London’s air.

Drivers with non-compliant vehicles will be charged £12.50 a day by TfL as a way of discouraging the use of more polluting vehicles. The scheme is in an attempt to improve air quality in the city by reducing emissions.

Transport for London (TfL) says nine out of 10 cars seen driving in outer London on an average day meet the Ulez standards, so will not be liable for the charge despite the expansion.

But Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency figures obtained by the RAC show 691,559 licensed cars in the whole of London are likely to be non-compliant.

Where was the Ulez boundary?

When Ulez was first introduced in 2019, it only covered a small area of central London, known as the congestion charge zone. It was expanded in 2021 to include boroughs in inner London such as Tower Hamlets and Southwark.

Since 2021, Ulez has covered the following areas of inner London:

  • City of London
  • City of Westminster
  • Lambeth
  • Southwark
  • Lewisham
  • Greenwich
  • Newham
  • Tower Hamlets

Now, it expands to cover Greater London, affecting boroughs such as Barnet, Upminster, Wimbledon, and Wembley.

Where will Ulez now cover?

Ulez will cover all areas in Greater London. Here are some of the more populous London areas Ulez expanded to on August 29:

North London

  • Barnet
  • Edgware
  • Edmonton
  • Enfield
  • Finchley
  • Woodford

East London

  • Barking
  • Dagenham
  • Ilford
  • Hornchurch
  • Romford
  • Upminster
  • Welling

South London

  • Biggin Hill
  • Bromley
  • Croydon
  • Kingston upon Thames
  • Mitcham
  • Sutton
  • Wimbledon

West London

  • Brentford
  • Harrow
  • Hayes
  • Richmond
  • Ruislip
  • Southall

This map from TfL shows where Ulez is currently in effect and where it will expand to.

Ulez is in operation 24 hours a day, every day of the year except Christmas Day. People who drive non-compliant cars will be charged £12.50 every day they drive in London.
