The policy stipulates that all single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings, including restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms, are designated for individuals based on their biological sex. Johnson emphasized that each Member office has its private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.
Johnson asserted that the policy is enforceable and highlighted the importance of providing women with women-only spaces. He clarified that the decision is not intended to be discriminatory but rather supportive of women's rights and privacy. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced a resolution to restrict the use of single-sex facilities to correspond with individuals' biological sex.
