New Titans QBs coach Bo Hardegree: 3 things to know

The Tennessee Titans reportedly made yet another addition to their offensive staff on Thursday with the team hiring former Las Vegas Raiders coach Bo Hardegree as their new quarterbacks coach.

Hardegree comes over after two seasons in Vegas. He served as quarterbacks coach and was named interim offensive coordinator after Josh McDaniels was fired during the 2023 campaign.

The 39-year-old coach replaces Charles London, who did an excellent job with quarterback Will Levis.

Hardegree will have big shoes to fill in that regard and will have one of the more important jobs on the staff considering how important Levis is to the franchise’s future.

Here’s some more information on the Titans’ new quarterbacks coach.

Hardegree was not only born in Jackson, Tennessee, he also went to college at the University of Tennessee, where he played quarterback from 2003-06. Before that, Hardegree attended Jackson-Central Merry High School.

Several Titans connections

Hardegree does have a connection with Titans head coach Brian Callahan. The pair were together on the staff of the Denver Broncos in 2014, when Hardegree was an offensive quality control coach and Callahan was an offensive assistant.

But Hardegree’s connection to Titans coaches doesn’t end there, as he’s also crossed paths with wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert (Broncos), defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson (Jets), linebackers coach Frank Bush (Jets) and defensive backs coach Steve Jackson (Jets).

Third stint as a QBs coach

Most recently, Hardegree did a solid job in the development of rookie signal-caller Aidan O’Connell, who played pretty well during his first season in the NFL. O’Connell finished with 2,218 passing yards and 12 touchdowns to seven picks over 11 games (10 starts). Vegas was 5-5 in his starts.

After he took over as interim offensive coordinator, the Raiders averaged 22.9 points per game, but it’s important to note that Las Vegas dropped a whopping 63 on the dead Los Angeles Chargers in one of those games.

If you take that out, the Raiders averaged 17.9 points per game over the other eight contests, which certainly isn’t great but was an improvement over the 15.8 points Las Vegas was averaging in the first eight games.

This is actually Hardegree’s third stint as a quarterbacks coach. He served as the Miami Dolphins’ from 2016-18, where he worked with Ryan Tannehill.
