The Tennessee Titans recently announced 21 members of their 2024 coaching staff, one of which was new defensive line coach, Tracy Rocker.
Rocker comes to Tennessee after three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and is following former defensive line coach and assistant head coach, Terrell Williams, who was not only good at his job but loved by the team and fans.
On paper, Rocker looks like the perfect man for the job, as he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from over 30 years of coaching, which includes a mix of college and the pros.
We’ll talk about that and more as we take a look at three things to know for the Titans’ new defensive line coach.
Third stint in Tennessee
Rocker’s first job in the NFL was actually with the Titans, where he served as defensive line coach from 2011-2013.
In that time, the Titans saw defensive lineman Jurrell Casey become one of the best players at his position in the NFL and he tallied a career-high 10.5 sacks in Rocker’s last campaign with the team.
Rocker also had a stint as the University of Tennessee’s defensive line coach from 2017-2019. In total, his coaching career spans over 30 years.
Coaching staff connections
Rocker has connections with multiple Titans coaches, the most prominent of which is defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, who worked with Rocker in 2021 and 2022 while Wilson served as Philadelphia’s defensive backs coach and pass-game coordinator.
Rocker was also on the same Titans staff as linebackers coach Frank Bush for two years (2011-12).
Success in Philly
With the Eagles, Rocker oversaw some impressive defensive line play and the development of two good young players in Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter.
Philadelphia also sported a top-10 run defense in two of his three years there, including the No. 9 unit in 2021 and the No. 10 unit in 2023.
