A new Tesco superstore has opened in Edge Hill, replacing the former Jack's store.
Tesco launched its budget-friendly Jack's stores in a bid to rival the likes of Aldi and Lidl. The chain was named after Tesco's founder, Jack Cohen, and specialised in offering food grown, reared or made in Britain at, according to the company at the time of its opening, "the lowest possible prices".
Jack's was not meant to be, with Tesco announcing earlier this year that it would be scrapping the chain and closing seven of the 13 Jack's discount stores, with the remaining six becoming supermarkets. Tesco Edge Hill opened earlier this week, welcoming customers through its doors on April 26.
