New study reveals where in Ireland house prices have soared highest over ten years

House prices in Dublin have soared by 80% over the last 12 years which is higher than anywhere else in the country, figures show.

The data shows buyers were forking out on average €332,941.86 for a property in the capital in 2010 but this has jumped to €598,906.89 last year - which is an increase of €265,955.03.

In Wicklow, there was a 68% increase when house prices shot up from €293,963.28 to €494,460.59.

Kildare ranked third with a 63% rise from €240,093.71 to €391,021.88 which is a €150,928.17 difference.

Counties Westmeath, Laois, and Meath came next on the list with 55%, 53%, and 48% increases respectively.

Cork came eighth on the list with a 45% increase, Limerick was 11th with a 43% rise and Galway saw a 38% difference.

On the other end of the scale, Longford saw the smallest increase with a 17% rise from €136,419.48 to €159,490.11.

Donegal, Mayo, and Sligo which were at the bottom of the list saw increases of €31,394.10, €36,078.90, and €37,350.31 respectively.

Ken Davis, Regional Manager for Storage World Self Storage who conducted the research, said: “It’s interesting yet worrying how much house prices have increased over the last 12 years in Dublin.

“It is understandable that the area is likely to see higher price increases when it comes to buying a house, however, an 80% increase since 2010 might be discouraging even for the capital.”

“This has a strong impact mostly on younger generations that may start to look to buy a home, however because of this increase, it’s not shocking to discover that many young adults do not think they’ll be able to afford their own house until much older”.
