The NCT centres with the highest failure rates in the country have been revealed - with one centre in Connacht seeing nearly two-thirds of vehicles fail.
The Castlerea NCT centre in Roscommon took the top spot with a whopping 62% of vehicles failing their full test.
That was a full 15% above the national average of 47%.
Other high ranking centres where you're most likely to fail include: Cavan (60%), Clifden (57%) and Carlow (56%).
Derrybeg (55%) also recorded the highest rate of 'dangerous' faults, with 11% of all vehicles being tested.
Alongside that, the top five reason for NCT failures in 2021 were revealed.
The most common issues were:
- front suspension (7%),
- beams (6%),
- brake lines-hoses (5%),
- brake components (4%)
- steering linkage (4%).
The most tested vehicle make was Toyota according to the study, undertaken by international scrap car recycling company CarTakeBack.
Chevrolet came out on top as the make of car that recorded the most NCT fails with 68%.
Other brands that featured in the top five included Citroen (58%), Vauxhall (56%), Alfa Romeo and Daihatsu (both 55%).
Meanwhile, sports car Porsche and Lexus shared first spot as the makes most likely to pass, with a 62% success rate.
Other brands that performed admirably included third placed Dacia on 61% and the ultra-reliable Skoda and Hyundai – both
on 60%.
