A steakhouse with capacity for up to 144 people has been proposed for the ground floor of a residential waterfront building at Honeysuckle.
Plans have been lodged to open Meat & Grain Steakhouse in the Huntington building at 33 Honeysuckle Drive.
It would be the second Meat & Grain Steakhouse. A restaurant of the same name opened in Wollongong in 2023. The Wollongong restaurant's menu includes seafood, steaks, ribs, burgers and salads.
The application before Newcastle council seeks approval for the use, capacity and trading hours for the food and drink premises. A complying development certificate has been approved for the fit out works.
The venue is planning to have both indoor and outdoor seating. The proposed opening hours for both indoor and outdoor areas would be 11am-10pm Friday and Saturday and 11am-9.30pm Sunday to Thursday.
This application seeks approval for a capacity of 144 patrons, spread throughout the bar, indoor and outdoor dining areas.
Staffing numbers would be a maximum of 20 and include kitchen, bar, wait staff and host.
Staff would have access to eight basement parks as approved in the Huntington development. Patrons would be required to use street parking or public transport.
The application comes after the approval of a bar and restaurant with capacity for up to 475 people in the same building.
Newcastle council approved a hospitality venue at 2/29 and 3/31 Honeysuckle Drive in December 2023, despite objections from Huntington residents about the hours and patron capacity.
