New sports bar with 194-inch screen ready to open on Swansea's Wind Street

A new sports bar with huge television screens and bench seating perfect for watching a match with all your friends and fellow fans is set to open in Swansea city centre this weekend. Wingers Sports Bar fills an empty unit on Little Wind Street, which previously housed Jamaican Jill's and then Bier Keller, and is set to be open seven days a week.

It's being billed as "Swansea's only dedicated sports bar" and will show all major matches and sporting events including football games, rugby matches and the Grand Prix. Plus, while watching your favourite sports games, you'll be able to enjoy a pint or two and tuck-in to some delicious grub. On the menu, you'll find a wide range of drinks and American-style food - including buffalo chicken wings, cauliflower wings, burgers, loaded fries, pizzas and a 'Wingers Sharing Combo'.

Confirming the opening of the new venue, staff wrote on social media on Thursday: "There’s a new game in town! Introducing Wingers, Swansea’s new favourite Sports Bar! You can enjoy sport, bar games, delicious food and ice cold drinks all whilst relaxing in our sports bar. So don’t be a stranger… we look forward to welcoming you at your new favourite hangout!"

The sports bar has benefited from a £100,000 investment, management say, and is the ninth venue in Wales for Scandinavian bar and club operator, REKOM, which also operates Swansea's Fiction nightclub and is currently renovating Idols bar and club on Wind Street into a new venue set to open in the new year.

The "Wingers" concept is the brainchild of venue manager, Gavin Stewart, who has managed Fiction for the past year and is a football coach in his spare time. “I have experience of running dedicated sports bars and I could see there was a gap in the market here in Swansea," he said. "I’m so excited and I’m confident we are on to a winner!”

Wingers Sports Bar, which has a capacity of 600 people, aims to "bring the ultimate sporting experience" to Swansea and has 18 tv screens around the venue - and a 194-inch high-definition giant screen - and will not only broadcast football and rugby but all major sports including F1, athletics, cycling, cricket, tennis, darts, horseracing and the NFL.

"Whatever your sport, Wingers is the place for you, whether to watch live action or participate in a range of social gaming, from pool and darts to fussball and air hockey. We even have the latest Xbox Fifa on a 65 inch TV and every Tuesday you can take me on in the ‘beat the boss’ competition with a chance to win a free drink if successful," Gavin added.

The venue has been decorated in a blue, green and orange colour scheme and there's sporting memorabilia throughout - as well as a "stadium penalty shootout" area and a seven-foot Wingers Rooster mascot that's set to make regular appearances!

Winger Sports Bar officially launches on Saturday, October 1 and on its opening weekend the bar will be showing all the major football matches, including Arsenal vs Tottenham and West Ham vs Wolves on Saturday, October 1 and Manchester City vs Manchester United and Leeds vs Aston Villa on Sunday, October 2. The Singapore Grand Prix will also be shown from 1pm.

The venue will be open Mondays to Fridays from 5pm to 11pm, Saturdays from 11am to midnight and Sundays from 12pm to midnight and can be found at 19 Little Wind Street (opposite Fiction nightclub, just off Wind Street) in Swansea city centre, SA1 1ED.
