New SPFL coach gives fresh update on out-of-contract duo amid summer of change

Wouter Vrancken plans to talk with Cammy Devlin over a potential Hearts return once the midfielder’s World Cup involvement ends.

The Australian international is currently a free agent after his Tynecastle contract expired at the end of last season, with uncertainty surrounding his next move.

Devlin had held discussions with former boss Derek McInnes before his exit and has since been linked with a switch to Rangers.

New Hearts head coach Vrancken confirmed he has yet to speak with the 28-year-old but intends to make contact when the timing is right. He said: “It’s totally with him at this moment.

"It’s the end of his contract, so it’s his decision what he wants to do. The more good players I have, the better for me as a coach.

"But everybody has to make the decision for himself.”

Devlin is currently away with Australia at the World Cup and is yet to feature under Tony Popovic ahead of their clash with Egypt on Friday. Vrancken added: “No, I didn’t speak with him. He’s fully concentrated on the World Cup, I think.

“When I look to the past with players around a World Cup, they have to be focused there now to perform. Will I speak to him after? Yeah, for sure. Depending on what he decides.

"When he’s going to decide, I will give him a call.”

The Belgian also confirmed he has not been in contact with club captain Craig Gordon, who is weighing up his future following Scotland’s tournament exit. He said: “Not at the moment. Like I said, I’m only focusing on the players I have now.

“Because of the situation of their contracts, it’s always with the player himself what he wants to do.”
