New Skirmisher Character Axle joins Apex Legends in Season 29

Season 29 of Apex Legends is bringing a new speed-based Legend to the Apex Games. Axle, the newest skirmisher character, is based entirely around sliding and movement tech, with an explosive ultimate to hunt down her enemies. While lore has been sparse in recent years, Axle comes with an interesting backstory as a body modder, sourced from the competitive racing scene on Salvo.

Her kit is centered on her ferocious speed and cut-throat need to win at all costs, something that should appeal to all Apex Legends players. Since the Apex Games will be speeding up even more with the addition of Axle, both Conduit and Vantage are receiving some buffs this season as well to help them keep up.

Axle’s Abilities: Passive, Tactical, and Ultimate

Keeping to the core of Apex’s gameplay, Axle is a Legend completely centered around speed. Her kit, like Octane’s, gives her and her teammates boosts to allow them to move around the battlefield – flanking enemies, charging into gun fire, or escaping to fight later. What makes Axle unique is the emphasis on sliding to speed up, a style that will encourage creative movement skills from a playerbase already known for high-skill movement tech.

  • Passive: Drift – Axle’s passive gives her greater control over her movement during slides, making pinpoint precision easier.
  • Tactical: Nitro Gate – Similar to Octane’s jump pad, Axle’s tactical is a boost that launches players into high-speed slides for better movement during fights. However, just like the jump pad, anyone in the match can use it so enemies could gain just as much of a speedy edge.
  • Ultimate: Kick Start – Axle brings her own special drone to the Apex Games. Unlike cuter drone companions – Crypto’s Hack or Lifeline’s D.O.C. – Axle launches a nameless drone to hunt down the closest enemy. Once locked on, the drone will chase until it gets close enough to trigger an explosion, launching the enemy player into the air, exposing them to gunfire. Hearing this drone will surely strike fear into the hearts of any unfortunate rats in the area.

With this entire kit packed into one vicious character, Axle is sure to be an absolute menace that appeals to players across skill levels. Her speed will attract players who enjoy hot dropping, while her tactical and ultimate will make her a formidable opponent in the hands of higher level players (especially in ALGS).

The Lore: A cut-throat racer from Salvo

Lore-wise, Axle is another Legend sourced from Salvo, the same planet as Fuse and Mad Maggie (which developers confirmed Axle hasn’t met, since it is a pretty big planet). Like those two characters, Axle has had a difficult life full of grief and violence, though instead of freedom fighting, Axle turned to intense body mods and racing. Deeply competitive and absolutely ruthless, Axle was a motorcycle racer before Blisk watched her dominate her competition and invited her to join the Apex Games.

Now, Axle is here for a new type of competition, one that she intends to conquer like all the rest. All she needs now is a team to keep up.

Unfortunately, Axle didn’t get her own ‘Stories from the Outlands’ trailer like earlier Legends, and it seems unlikely that she’ll get much deeper lore than what has already been revealed in her backstory.
