New RTE "shamefest" show Clear History is "confessions without the priest" according to the host.
Funny man, and Cavan man Kevin McGahern is returning to host Clear History tonight on RTE 2.
Along with Joanne McNally and Jason Byrne, two special guests will also relive iconic and infamous moments from the nation’s history as well as sharing their own personal embarrassments.
The teams will take a hilarious deep-dive into these moments from Ireland’s colourful past, selecting unforgettable and regrettable moments that could do with being cleared from history.
A few guests in the audience will be asked to put the comically cringey moments from their personal histories on public display too.
Kevin told Dublin Live: “Myself, Joanne McNally and Jason Byrne are joined by two special guests every week.
“We discuss moments from their lives they wish they could erase, embarrassing stories they want to blank from their memories forever.
“We discuss moments from Irish history that we wish we could get rid of and we talk to members of the public telling their stories as well.
“It’s basically just a big shame fest, it’s confessions without the priest.”
Kevin is delighted to be back with a live audience for the second season of the show and he believes that the nation is crying out for comedy after the Covid pandemic.
He said: “After the last couple of years there’s a hunger for live comedy and there’s a hunger for comedy shows on TV, we haven’t had a lot of home grown comedy shows and people are crying out for them.
“Having the audience there this time was a brilliant boost, we started the first season during Covid. It was enjoyable but it wasn’t as much fun as it was with an audience.”
For anyone asking how a Cavan man managed to land himself gigs in RTE, it’s clear that Kevin worked diligently for the roles he takes on today.
He added: “I was always interested in animation, and studied that in college. I always thought that I wanted to make cartoons, then I got a job working in the International Bar, purely because the owner at the time lived in my hometown in Gowna and I asked him for a job in his pub in Dublin.
“It’s the home of Irish comedy, it’s where stand-up started here. I was always interested in it but I hadn’t said it to myself yet. Watching comedians every night gave me the confidence to try it out bit by bit.
“I always said yes to everything. If anyone asked me to do a film for free or do a sketch, I said yes to everything and that’s the best advice I can give to anyone starting off.
“Say yes and be pleasant, you’ll give work to a nice person over someone who isn’t - even if they’re better. Be nice and say yes to everything, that’s how I ended up on Republic of Telly too.”
Clear History will be on RTE 2 tonight, Thursday, 17 of February at 10:30pm. The comedy show will run for eight weeks.
