New restaurant serving square Detroit-style pizza opens in Merseyside

A restaurant serving Detroit style pizza has opened its doors in Merseyside.

Luella’s on Bridge Street in Litherland has opened inside the former Dough restaurant, which closed earlier this year “with a very heavy heart”. The new restaurant comes from Ryan Lynch, who was one of Dough’s owners.

The new pizzeria sits in the same building as Lynchburger, which is also owned by Ryan. Luella’s is named after Ryan’s daughter.

The menu features classic Detroit-style square pizzas and a number of some Dough favourites as sides such as halloumi fries and cornflake chicken. The dough used at Luella’s has been formed and worked on for months to create a thick bread like texture, which is light and airy inside.

To keep the quality, the restaurant only makes a certain amount of dough each day - 40 during the week and 60 on the weekends. The venue features a “neighbourhood restaurant feel”, according to Ryan, with stools and counter tops all around the edge of the site.

Alongside Luella’s, the company has also introduced Bootle Wine Club, with wine available to takeaway and via subscription. Luella’s charges a corkage fee so you can drink your wine on site alongside your food.

Ryan says plans are also in the works to open up at Luella’s restaurant in Birkenhead in the coming weeks.
