A published report says homicides in Kentucky did not decrease as much last year as previously reported.
Despite a higher number of homicides in Jefferson County, overall Kentucky experienced a double-digit drop in homicides for 2022.
The Lexington Herald-Leader says the statewide crime report showed 64 homicides were reported in Jefferson County instead of 164 reported by Louisville Metro Police.
The statewide report said homicides in Kentucky decreased from almost 650 in 2021 to just over 430 last year. The higher number in Jefferson County would bring the 2022 total up to just over 530.
If that number is accurate, the Commonwealth would have seen an 18% decrease in homicides instead of the reported 33% drop.
