New Radical Party BSW Emerges In Germany's Election

BSW party chairwoman Sahra Wagenknecht speaks at the BSW election party after the first exit polls for the state elections in Thuringia and Saxony are released, in Erfurt, Germany, Sunday, Sept. 1, 20

As Germany's election draws near, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) has emerged as a potential headline-grabber alongside the far right. Wagenknecht, who labels herself a 'conservative leftist,' has taken the unconventional step of naming the party after herself, leveraging her personal brand to attract supporters. The BSW has found backing from former Left Party members and even some disaffected followers of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), particularly in Germany's eastern regions.
